RE: Battery screwup

I found that the positive wire was not connected properly and was sometimes touching the terminal and sometimes not. It was another example of operator error. What sort of symptoms could I expect with a damaged battery? Hi Listerman, Your battery's are just fine. The only thing you did when you had the wires hooked up wrong was supply 6v to your RV circuit. The heat in the wire was most likely caused by the loose conncetion that you found and corrected. :C

RE: Are There Any Batteries That Don't Outgas?

B-MAN, gees where you been hiding :B I would suggest that you mount them on the tongue so we could have another hitch post too jaw about and the end of summer :B :B :B The only way I'd mount gel's or AGM's under my bed would to enclose them into a positive pressure box. That would consist of a 12v puter fan blowing into the battery box with a top outlet discharge vent back to the outside of the trailer. A 4" 12v puter fan would produce the required ventilation CFM but at a low FPM so it would be noiseless and use very little juice, under 5w. What a PITA to service tho! Are you sure we can figure out how too mount them where your other two battery's are? side x side, stacked, length x length Another thing, with two wet cells and two AGM's/gel's your going to need two different charge regulators, one for each set of types of battery. :C

RE: Diesel fuel dumb question of the Decade

If you ever had to deal with a gelled up diesel, you would take the 5min of time to add some anti-gel even if you don't think you'll need it. The extra anti-gel won't hurt a thing. There's several States that does not supply winterized diesel, central Arizona being one of them. :C

RE: Ideas needed for hauling water

Did you think about going to a water bed store and getting one of their throw aways? Works pretty well and comes in various sizes. Very durable and good if it is not for drinking water. A Waterbed matteras is NOT rated NSF for drinking water safe. Those chemicals to make the plastic will transfer too your clean RV water system and will not be easy to clean out. So if you can't mix the WB water with the RV water system, how can that be useful? :C

RE: Ideas needed for hauling water

For the past 18years, I've been using a 12v RV water pump with a lawn & garden battery for power. I then use a 100gal hard poly tank that is carried vertical on the rear bumper or under the RV between the frame rails when traveling. I just slide it under the RV when camped. That's about what we use each week while boondocking, 100gal. :C

RE: Licence to double tow in California

The best thing I did for my son at 18yo was to send him too professional driving school to get his comm-CDL-A. For $225 he received 8hrs of school/training, took and passed all the in cab driving and preinspection part of the test at the school, walked across the street with the instructor too take the written test at the DMV and 8hrs latter was holding his CDL in his hand. All very well worth the $225 bucks. I was stopped in OR for pulling non-commercial doubles 10 miles from the ID state line. The officer strongly suggested I disconnect the car for the last 10miles but issued no ticket. :C

RE: using furnace exhaust to warm patty-o-room

ABC News last winter had a report that 60% of new CO detectors they tested failed to detect harmful CO levels right out of the box. Fresh air cross ventilation is the only 100% sure way to deal with CO. :C T_Bone

RE: Looking at an F350

Yeah - almost too good to be true :R :R :R Why don't you go down there and really try to buy one for that :? Les Well Les, I have 28,500 miles on the 02. :B This out fit normal doesn't BS but you never know. Between my son and I, we've bought four new vehicles from them. So far, no one can touch there pricing, that is "fleet" pricing but anyone can buy at fleet prices, you just have to ask. :C T_Bone

RE: Furnace with amonia smell

Hi Paul, Dehydrated urine= nitric acid = the ammonia smell. This is in all urine of any type, with some urine with a higher concentrate of nitric acid than other urine. About the best urine for heat treatment of fine tempered steel(swords) comes from horses with only pig urine rated higher for quality. Since you know the source, I'll let your mind wonder of how too rid yourself of that smell as there's too many safety issues to cover here in this limited space. :C

RE: Looking at an F350

The Dealer fleet dept where I bought my 02 F350 sent me a mailer for a 08 F450 RegCab, PSD, 6spd-Auto, 12ft steel deck with interlocking side gates, $22900 brand new That's $8k lower than I paid for my 02.. I thought that sure sounded like a somking good deal. :C

RE: Propane useage

For the past 18yrs, at 40ºf nights, full LP usage, coffee (10pots) cooking, showers every day, furnace) is 10gal/week like clock work. If it gets cold, 0ºf nights, then 15gal/week. :C

RE: F53 vapor lock problem.

I found that vapor lock is vapor lock and it doesn't matter what engine or fuel system were talking about as the problem is always the same, heat that causes the fuel to vaporize inside the fuel line just before entering the carb. A electric fuel pump will help. Cutting a all metal gas line and installing a piece of soft fuel line at the carb entrance will help. This is usually where I throw in a G-2 fuel filter as I get both a fuel filter and a soft line in one shot for under $3. Adding a "T" return to the fuel tank installed right at the carb fuel line entrance connection will also help. Running non-alcohol fuel will really help. :C

RE: using furnace exhaust to warm patty-o-room

There can only be one answer to this topic. NO Here's why: Good friends with 22 family members are camping just east of Seattle in a Fed campground with a treated water supply. Seven days latter they bury a 12yo niece that had been on the camping trip and got the gardenia bug from the treated water supply. She just happen to be ultra sensitive to the bug. No other family member even had the slightest reaction other than this one girl. That my Friends is why you can not promote or condone this use of a heater. And yes, CO is a by-product of combustion of LP gas. :C

SSA Makes Filing Disability Claim Easy

AP SSA speeds benefits review for disability claims Monday October 27, 9:42 am ET By Jim Abrams, Associated Press Writer Social Security speeds benefits review for those with some cancers and severe conditions WASHINGTON (AP) -- People with cancers and other severe medical conditions will get quicker action on disability claims under a new Social Security program. The time needed to decide claims could trim from 100 days or more to as few as two, said Michael J. Astrue, who heads the Social Security Administration. The Compassionate Allowances initiative will apply to 25 rare diseases and 25 cancers, and may be expanded later, the agency said Monday. This is something that I've believed in for a long, long time," Astrue said in an interview before the announcement. His father received disability benefits because of a rare form of brain cancer. The program focuses on diseases where the conditions are so severe or the treatment so difficult that that the person making the claim obviously cannot continue working. Astrue said the agency can approve many claims solely on confirmation of the diagnosis. Those include acute leukemia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and pancreatic cancer. Among others on the list are inoperable forms of breast, bladder, kidney and bone cancer; Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease; Gaucher disease; and Rett Syndrome. At a public hearing on the program last spring, Dr. Edward Benz, president of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, said 1.4 million cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year and a significant number of cancer patients are uninsured or underinsured. "Coupled with an inability to perform work given the disabling impact of their diseases, the financial impacts to these patients and their families are enormous," he said. Depending on the nature of the claim, a decision from the agency can take months. Getting a hearing for an appeal may take longer, more than a year at times. This year the agency began a rapid action process whereby computers scan for key terms that make it 95 percent certain a claim will be accepted. Together with the new program based on specific diseases, the agency estimates the two-track system will result in a decision for 6 percent to 9 percent of disability cases, for as many as 250,000 people, in a matter of days. Even with the speedier processing, there will be no change in the law under which claimants must wait five months before getting benefits. Those receiving approval may have shorter periods to wait because the five-month period begins from the onset of the disability. The Social Security Disability Insurance program for the past half-century has paid monthly benefits to disabled workers and certain family members who have worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes. The Social Security Administration this year will receive about 2.6 million disability claims. Maybe we can make this a sticky ? :B :C

RE: So. Calif. Place For ATV’s, But Not Too Many

I don't know what there doing in Cal but already in Scottsdale,AZ they out lawed ALL public ATV use. They got this passed by using the EPA laws for dust control. Arizona this year has just been rewriting all there ATV laws and it don't look good. They turned all ATV enforcement over to Fish & Game control. :C

RE: How many recharge with solar?

Two panels, 260 watts total. Four 105 amp/hr batteries. Running a satellite dish and a 24" LCD TV in a Nash 25S TT. Even with a 30 degree night and a forced air heater - and 3-4 hrs of TV the batteries fully charge the next day. As we sometimes camp at 7,000 to 9,000 feet, our heater does get USED! And yes, the motor is the greatest consumer of electricity. If we get a cloudy day, we cut back on our use. Pretty simple. (Had a Yamaha 2400i, sold it. Not needed for us. Your conditions might seriously vary.) Thanks, that is the kind of usage we have. I just installed 2-6v GC to get us to 4 total. Do you have a MPPT controller? If so how's that working out? According too the MPPT text refference, you won't see to much of a improvement at summer time temps. Where MPPT CC's preform there majic is when it's cold outside and the PV's run cold. That being said, if your wanting a meter for tracking usage, then a MPPT is not a bad buy. They sell for about what it costs for a good PWM CC plus a digital meter will cost you. So if you get a slight benefit from the MPPT charging even during the summer time then to me this is the best bang for the buck. :C

RE: Condenser fan

Hi Greg, A 2007 should be puter controlled or at least partial puter controlled. On any glitch with a puter system, the first thing I do is reset the puter too the default settings. This can easily be accomplished by disconnecting the coach battery(s) for at least 1hr, (I like over night). This gives the KAM (keep alive memory) a chance to bleed off to where it will reset to the factory defaults. If there truly is a problem with a component, new codes will once again be quickly reset and the problem will continue. I use this method too keep my fuel mileage at the maximum it can be on my F350. This works extremely well. :C

RE: How to quiet a mini fan

CFM does not determine fan noise. FPM does, (feet per minute) CFM is volume of air that is moving. FPM is how fast that volume of air moves. The slower the air moves the less noise it makes. I agree, a 6" - 12v puter fan is what your looking for. :C

RE: Shur Flo Water Pump

Hi RR, If you need a rebuild kit then you might consider replacing the SurFlo with a Flotec pump. My last 3 Surflo pumps lasted under a year, two motors and one pump failure after about 20hrs use each. The Flotec pumps with less noise and more gpm for the same sized Surflo. Flotec is about $10 more cost but well worth it from what I have seen. Such a shame as I have two Surflo pumps that are over 15yrs old. :C

RE: Solar Panels

I've placed a few orders with Wind&Sun over the years. The first two orders my Visa charge did not match my invoice amount and took several calls too resolve with a dispute filed to resolve one order. My last order this year there was no problem with the orders. I split the order in two, one for new PV's and one for a new CC. Both were billed as they should be. You sure can't beat the website for info. :C
